The Kami Kotan Cave Group is a valuable landform in which pebbles in the depressions of the bedrock on the riverbank are rotated by water currents, and cylindrical holes (holes) formed by digging into the rock over a long period of time are distributed over a period of about 1,200 meters. It is a city-designated cultural property (natural monument) of Asahikawa City, and is also known as a place where you can experience the story of “Japan Heritage Kami Kotan: The Fierce Battle between Demon Gods and Hero Gods”.

It is said that Ainu traditions are alive in this land, and that the “footprints” that the demon god Ninnekamui stepped on while being chased by the heroic god Samaiku remained as a hole. On the rocks just upstream, there are traces that can be said to be “knife marks” cut by Samaiku. The unique taste of the shape created by the power of nature and the overlapping of the mythical world are attractive. Observation is possible from the riverbank promenade and observation points, but the wet rocky area is slippery, so please wear comfortable shoes to visit safely.
