Tokachidake Mt. Lookout Platform
A spectacular spot where you can see the majestic Mt. Tokachi up close and encounter nature
Located about 5 km by car from Shirokane Onsen in Biei Town, at an altitude of 930 meters, Bogakudai is a viewing spot where you can feel the powerful appearance of the active volcano Mt. Tokachi up close. The peaks of the mountains and rugged rock faces spread out in front of you, making it a place where you can truly experience the great nature of Hokkaido.
There is a walking trail of about 1.1 km (about 45 minutes) in the surrounding area, where you can enjoy pretty alpine plants in summer and fiery autumn leaves in autumn. If you’re lucky, you may even encounter the Ezo pika, which is endemic to Hokkaido and is also called the “mountain fairy”.
It is also popular as a base for climbing Mt. Tokachi, with four climbing courses that can be enjoyed by both beginners and advanced climbers. From late September ~ early October, the autumn leaves are at their peak, and the mountain surface is dyed red and yellow, which is breathtakingly beautiful.
There is also a rest house and free parking lot on the premises, making it a great stop not only for climbers but also for stopping by during your drive. After enjoying the spectacular scenery and strolling, spend a relaxing and healing time in the 100% free-flowing hot spring water of Shirokane Onsen.
