Kamikawa Shrine
Praying for the blessings of the Daisetsuzan Mountains, Kamikawa Shrine guarding the history of Asahikawa's pioneering
Kamikawa Shrine began in Meiji 26 as the guardian of the Kamikawa region, the guardian of Asahikawa, and enshrined Emperor Amaterasu on a hill near the current Asahikawa Station, which was called “Yoshitsudai” at the time. After a relocation due to the development of the urban area, it was moved to the land of Kagura Oka in Taisho 13, and the gods of worship were enshrined in Daiki Ogami and Shohiko Na Omikami. Currently, Emperor Amaterasu is the main deity, and Daiki Ogami and Shohiko Na are enshrined together, and in Heisei 4, people who contributed to the development of Hokkaido and the development of the Kamikawa region and Asahikawa (including Iwamura Michitoshimei) are enshrined in the right seat.
The precincts are beautiful in all four seasons, and you can spend a quiet time visiting the temple with cherry blossoms in spring, deep greenery in summer, autumn leaves in autumn, and snowy scenery in winter. There are also monuments and shrines related to the history of pioneering, making it ideal for cultural history walks. The correspondence hours of the red stamps, awarding offices, and festival schedules change depending on the season, so please check the latest information before visiting.
